One More Week...

Dear Brothers:

As many of you know, my brother-in-law, David Pryor, passed away this past Saturday.  I'll be preaching at his memorial this Saturday (2/28) here.  My text will be from Proverbs 18:  "There is a friend that sticks closer than a brother."
As a result (and, with a session retreat coming Sunday), I'm pretty swamped this week.  Thus I'll have to move our next gathering to Wednesday, March 4th.

Thank you for your understanding...

Mid-Winter Break...

Dear Brothers of The Nicodemus League:

With an official act coming this Saturday and Ash Wednesday next week, I thought we might take a breather for two Wednesdays.  That sets up our next get-together for Wednesday, February 25th -- same time, same place!

Now, just a few thoughts crossing the vast, mental wasteland of my mind!  I have two framed pictures above my credenza in the office.  One is a classic photo of Johnny Carson delivering one of his famous monologues, decked out in his trademark Hart, Schafner, and Marx blazer.  On the other side is Charlie Watts, the drummer for The Rolling Stones.  He sports formal attire and a top-hat.  It appears he is attending a horse race.

For me, Carson represents a sense of humor while Watts represents rhythm.  The Gospel of Jesus Christ assures us that our ultimate destination is secure (and Lent, Holy Week, and Easter, in no small part, will deliver this bounty to heart and mind soon).  Thus, with eternity secure, life itself is a journey.  So, why not go at it with rhythm (represented for me by Watts, but you could choose your own persona), and a sense of humor (represented for me by Carson; again, you could choose your own).

Our Lord's "metronome", if you will, was constantly going back and forth, tick-tock.  He lived robustly, faithfully, lovingly, energetically -- every day!  In addition, I'm sure He was no sad sack.  Think of a good sense of humor!  Recall Zacchaeus climbing up a tree to see Him better as the Lord made His way through town.   Can't you just imagine Jesus looking up and shaking His holy head with a big grin on it?  Then it's, "C'mon down; I'm going to go have dinner at your place!"  He just invited Himself over.    No one can do that with a serious mug shot; it can only be done with a playful smile.

Thank you, gentlemen, for being part of this venture and giving it rich moments of rhythm and laughter.   I'm looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

Kind Regards to You and Yours!

P.S.  Keep Paul Carr and his family in your prayers as they remember Emma Jean Hall, a member of FPC, who was called to glory this past Sunday.

I have tickets for the Denton Christian Preschool MEXICAN SUPPER on Friday, Feb. 27.  Let me know if you'd like to enjoy some El Guano right here on our grounds (Erwin Hall) and support a good cause; I'll hook you up!
