This Weekend...

Dear Brothers...

Thank you for another great Wednesday of nourishment for the masculine spirit, mind, and body.

Some of you have asked about the move from "temporary supply" to "installed pastor" here at FPC.  This will be recognized Saturday at Binnerri Presbyterian Church in Richardson,TX.  I invite you to attend but I understand, given the late nature of this note, that you might not be able to. Whether in attendance or not, I covet your prayers and thank you for your support!  Below please find a copy of the announcement I sent to the membership at FPC.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

Greetings!  At a stated meeting this weekend, Grace Presbytery will recognize our congregation's action to move the pastoral ministry from "temporary supply" to "installed pastor".  This is a joyous occasion for any congregation, but it is particularly special for us.  While our numbers may be small, our commitment to mission and ministry is strong.  Your faith and action, inspired by the Holy Spirit, have brought us to this day, and Grace Presbytery is going to recognize it.

I'd like to invite you to join me for the occasion.  I know this is a bit of a "late notice", but we wanted to be sure we were "on the agenda", as they say, for the meeting.  The meeting will be held this Friday and Saturday, February 28-March 1, at Binnerri Presbyterian Church in Richardson, Texas.    I'll be attending both days, but I want you to know that  the activity which involves FPC will be on Saturday -- beginning at 10:00 am.

Here is the address:

Binnerri Presbyterian Church
1301 Abrams Rd
Richardson, TX 75081-5525

Whether or not you can attend, I do want to thank you all for the prayers, good wishes, and words of encouragement and support you have extended to me throughout this process and, indeed, during the nearly three and half years I've been privileged to serve in your midst.

Warm Regards in Christ,

Rev. Paul R. Dunklau

Edition VIII of THE NICODEMUS LEAGUE is set to go!    Our lunch music will feature Professor Longhair's "Tipitina" (from "The Big Easy" soundtrack).  We'll revisit Mardi Gras, take a look at why one author thinks "men don't go to church", and then consider the possible benefits of a form of chiropractic called "Airrosti".

Looking forward to our midweek repose, I am...

TNL Edition VII (February 19, 2014)

Edition VII of The Nicodemus League is going to be "all over the place" tomorrow!  Lunch will include Greek fare.  We'll take in our nourishment listening to a classic old song performed by Waylon Jennings!

Your presentation will include segments, as always, for your spirit, mind, and body.   Richard Rohr's On the Threshold of Transformation will be sampled (a tremendous book of meditations for men, by the way).
Then comes a brief look at "Step 1" of Alcoholics Anonymous.  We'll finish up with some ideas on how men can improve the quality of their sleep.

And no, I didn't have Dean and Jerry tattoo'd on my arm!

See you tomorrow -- 12:00noon, Sybil Hopper Room, FPC, Denton!

Allow me to bask in the afterglow of another great edition (#5 to be exact) of The Nicodemus League.  Thanks for showing up in what I think was our largest gathering.  We're going to have to place a bigger order at Panera!

We offered a postmortem or two on the Super Bowl, discussed stunt work in James Bond movies, and listened to a little Van Morrison. ("Glad Tidings" was the song that David Chase included in an episode of "The Sopranos".) Speaking of TV, Kevin Spacey (see picture above) plays a corrupt congressman in "House of  Cards" on Netflix.  I'll provide a little commentary on the show next Wednesday while introducing a  book by Mark Leibovich called "This Town:  Two Weddings and A Funeral."

In addition, we'll take a look at excavations currently being done in Capernaum on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee.  This fishing community was Jesus' home after He began His public ministry.  Later on, we'll sample some different kinds of protein:  whey, casein, probiotic.  You're not going to want to miss it!  See you next Wednesday for Edition VI of The Nicodemus League!
